ReadMe LiesMich LisezMoi

Please note: The version displayed on these pages is completely out of date!

Actually, a new version is in the works. It will rule the world once it's finished, but that's still some way to go. However, due to high request, this beta is now available in public.

If you like to try it, feel free to do so. It can be downloaded here. We would love to hear some feedback as well! Please contact me for any questions you might have!

What is this?

Did you ever think about adding multilingual ReadMe files to your disk image, but were prevented from doing so because you'd have to store so many separate files? Did you ever wonder how come you could create localized applications, bundled in one neat package, but were unable to do the same for simple documents?

Locadoc to the rescue!

With Locadoc, you can turn multiple files into a simple package, which will act like a single file on the user's computer. Once a user double clicks that package, the appropiate file will be launched, depending on his chosen system language. This not only reduces clutter on your preferred method of distribution (CD, .dmg), it also means more comfort to your customer, since they do not need to hunt down the right file to open.

Simple and effective

All you need to create localized documents are... localized documents. Really, just drag'n'drop some files onto Locadoc, select the appropiate languages, and let the application do its job.

Self-contained and launcher

Locadoc can build two types of applications: Either a launcher that opens the specific localized file in the appropriate application (e.g. TextEdit), or a self-contained reader that opens the documents in a very simple window.

Any file type you like

While the self-contained reader can only handle .txt and .rtf(d) files, Locadoc can handle every file type you like to use, autromatically creating a launcher. Got a keynote presentation in various languages? A synchronized QuickTime movie? No problem.

Custom icon

Choose between some deafult icons (txt, rtf, pdf) for display, or simply use your own creation. A Newspaper would fit for "info"...

Localized file name

Locadoc leverages a great feature of Mac OS X — the localized application title. Whether you'll create a launcher or a self-contained reader, the application will show a localized title on the user's system.

The blue-tec Localization Suite requires Mac OS X 10.3 or above and the Apple Development Tools (Xcode) to be properly installed.

Be sure to check out the Suite's other applications: Localization Manager and Localizer.
